London is the capital of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland.
London is one of the largest and most
beautiful cities in the world. It is
situated on the river Thames.
London attracts a lot of
tourists every year.
London has many places of interest.
Big Ben
Big Ben is one of the most
famous clocks in the world. It
is really a bell. The bell is over
two metres tall and chimes
every quarter of an hour.
Trafalgar
Square
is London’s
central square.
On the column
in the center
there is a statue
of Admiral
Nelson who
defeated the
French at the
battle of
Trafalgar in
1805.
Celebrations in
Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is
famous not only for
its size . It is also the
point of mass
meetings and various
events as well as
celebrations
throughout the year.

St.Paul’s
Cathedral
Is one of the symbols
of London. It is 175m
long and 111m high.
There has been a
Cathedral on this site
for 1,500 years. The
first church was built
in 604 but burnt

reconstructed in the

became the largest
church in England.
Westminster Abbey
is a working church
and a great monument to the history of
England. It was built in the 11
th
century.
The Houses
of
Parliament
are the
buildings in
which the
British
Parliament
sits.
The Tower of London
is a historic monument on the north bank of
the River Thames. The Tower was a fortress,
a royal palace and later a prison. Now it is a
museum containing a lot of interesting
collections.
Beefeaters
Beefeater is a
soldier who is a
guard in the
Tower of
London. He
wears a special
uniform. It was
designed some
centuries ago
and has never
changed since
then.
Beefeaters look
after the Tower
and take care of
black ravens that
live there.
Tower Bridge
is the most famous London’s bridge. It was built in 1897.
Buckingham
Palace
is the London
home of the
British Royal
family.
Changing of
the Guard
Is a ceremony
held at
Buckingham
Palace. The
guards in red
uniforms and
black fur hats
replace others.
Windsor
Castle
The Queen’s real
home is Windsor
Castle that is not
far from London.
She spends her
weekends and
holidays there but
on weekdays she
stays at
Buckingham
Palace.
Queen
Elizabeth II
is the Queen of
Britain since
1952.
Monarchy is the oldest form of
government in the United Kingdom.
London’s
parks
London is very
rich in parks and
gardens. Parks
are full of trees,
grass, flowers,
ponds and small
lakes.
The Palace
Garden
There are many
flowers and trees and
even a landing pad for
helicopter that the
Queen sometimes
uses. In summer The
Queen gives 3 garden
parties. The party
always starts at 4 pm.
Guests enjoy tea and
sandwiches in the
garden. The Queen
invites the people
who have done good
work in different
fields.
Hyde Park
It is the biggest
park in London. It
was founded in
1536. Now it is
famous for its
outdoor activities.
In the park you
can find
playgrounds.
St. James’s
Park
is the oldest of
London’s parks.
The park was
founded in 1532.It
is very beautiful
with its green
trees and colourful
flowers. This
park’s lake has
been home to
many wild birds.
Kensington
Gardens
are very popular for
sunbathing and
picnics in fine
weather. The gardens’
main role is to be the
place where people
living or working in
central London can
take a rest and enjoy
the silence. Here you
can see the statue of
the famous fairytale
hero, Peter Pan.
Regent’s Park
Here you can find
a rose garden,
playgrounds, a
lake and a theatre.
Since 1828 it has
been home to the
London Zoo.
The British
Museum
in London is one of
the world's greatest
museums of human
history and culture. It
has one of the largest
world’s libraries.
There are unusual
museums in London.
At
Madame
Tussauds
you can
see wax figures of
famous people.
The London Eye
It is a giant wheel
which is situated
on the south bank
of the Thames. It
is 135 metres high
and turns very
slowly. There are
32 capsules for
people to stand in.
15 000 people a
day enjoy a
fantastic view the
Thames and
central London.
