Ход урока

1 Оргмомент

-
Good morning, everybody! Glad to see you. Sit down, please.
-
Who is on duty today?
-
Who is absent?
-
What was your homework for today?
-
The topic of our lesson is “Meals” (слайд 1). We are going to speak about food and drink and how to make an order at a restaurant or a cafe.
2 Актуализация опорных знаний

2.1 Фонетическая зарядка

-
We’ll start our lesson with the phonetic drill. Listen to me attentively and repeat the following words and word combinations after me (слайд 2):  lunch  in the lunch hour  a meal  a morning meal  a midday meal  an evening meal  a canteen  a restaurant  a waitress  a waiter  to call  a knife  a fork  a spoon  a plate  hungry  to be hungry  soup  salad  vegetable salad, fruit salad  meat  potatoes  fish  bread  white bread, rye bread, brown bread  salt  to pass the salt  a cake  ice-cream  thirsty  to be thirsty  tea  a cup of tea  strong tea  coffee  white coffee, black coffee  milk  sugar  a lump of sugar  water  mineral water  juice  apple juice, orange juice
2.2 Проверка домашнего задания
- To make sure you know the meaning of these words I want you to give me English equivalents of some Russian words and word combinations and vice-versa (слайд 3). 3
 хотеть есть  хотеть пить  вода  чай  официантка  официант  звать, подзывать  хлеб  передавать  картофель  ложка  вилка  нож  тарелка  сахар  приём пищи  столовая  ресторан  мороженое  на второе  пирожное  на третье, на сладкое  овощной салат - I see that you know the words rather well and I hope that the text you were to read at home was not difficult for you. Let’s read it and translate (см. Приложение 1) (слайды 4, 5). - Now read the dialogue with the words and word combinations from the text (слайд 6). A: “Let’s go to the canteen, shall we?” B: “Yes, let’s.” (At the table) A: “Will you have any soup today?” B: “No, I’m not very hungry. But I’ll have some mineral water, salad, meat and potatoes.” A: “The salad’s good, but there is not enough salt in it. Will you pass me the salt, please.” B: “Certainly. Here it is.” A: “Thank you.” B: “Shall I pass you some rye bread?” A: “No, thank you. I usually have it with the soup, and I like white bread for the meat course.” B: “Will you have tea or coffee?” A: “I’ll have white coffee and some cake.” B: “As for me, I’ll have an ice-cream for the sweet.” - Is everything clear to everybody? - If everything is clear to everybody, we are going to learn the dialogue by heart.
3 Формирование новых знаний

3.1 Просмотр видеоролика по теме урока
- All right, let’s continue our lesson. By the way, did you have any experience in ordering food at a restaurant or a cafe when you travelled abroad? - Was it difficult to order? 4
- Today we’ll watch a video which has a situation of ordering meals at a restaurant and a cafe (просмотр видеоролика BBC Learning Look Ahead “Food and Drink”) (слайд 7). First you are going to watch it, then you will do some exercises and activities and, as a result, you will practice the situation with your partners.
3.2 Составление диалогов с новыми речевыми образцами
- Now let’s practice the dialogue in pairs. On your tables you have different menus. Decide which of you is going to be a waiter or a waitress and which is a customer. So the customers have to order dishes from these menus. You have 5-10 minutes to make up your dialogues (см. Приложение 2) (слайд 8). - Now I hope you’ll feel more confident and experienced in such a kind of situation.
4 Применение знаний и умений в новой ситуации

4.1 Аудирование
- It’s time to relax. And I’m going to read you a funny story. Listen to me and try to understand it: “One day a Frenchman who was travelling in Sweden came to a restaurant. The Frenchman did not know Swedish and nobody could speak French at the restaurant. He wanted to have some mushrooms for his breakfast; so he called a waiter and asked him to bring some mushrooms. But the waiter could not understand what the Frenchman wanted. Then the Frenchman took a piece of paper and a pencil and drew the picture of a mushroom. The waiter looked at the picture and left the room at once. Five minutes later he returned with an umbrella.” - Answer the questions (слайд 9):  Who was travelling in Sweden one day?  Did the Frenchman know Swedish?  Could anybody speak French at the restaurant?  What did the Frenchman want to order for his breakfast?  What did the waiter bring him? - Now retell the story.
4.2 Чтение текста и выполнение упражнений на основе текста
- You see, it’s very important to know the language of the country you are travelling through and, of course, it’s very important to know its customs and traditions. Now we are going to read a text about what British people eat and when (см. Приложение 3) (слайды 10, 11). - Say whether the following sentences are true or false. Correct the false sentences (см. Приложение 4) (слайд 12). - Now we’ll watch a video about take-away meals (просмотр видеоролика BBC Learning Look Ahead “Food and Drink”) (слайд 13). 5

Подведение

итогов

урока
- I liked your active work. Your marks are… - The lesson is over. I hope that now you will be much more confident and experienced in ordering meals at a restaurant or a café if you travel abroad. Thank you for your work. Good bye! (слайд 15). 6
Приложение 1 In the Lunch Hour. I usually have lunch at half past one, but yesterday I went to the office without breakfast (I only had a cup of tea) and by twelve o’clock I was already hungry. I don’t like having lunch alone, so I said to Nick: “Let’s have lunch together.” “All right,” he answered, “I’ll join you in a few minutes.” When we went to the canteen, there weren’t many people there. We got tickets (checks) for lunch, sat down at the table near the window, and called the waitress. She brought knives, forks, spoons and plates and took our tickets (checks). “Will you have any soup today?” I asked Nick. “No, I’m not very hungry,” he said. “But I’ll have some mineral water, salad, meat and potatoes, and ice-cream for the sweet.” “Oh, here is the waitress.” (The waitress brings the dishes). “The salad’s very good, but there’s not enough salt in it. Will you pass me the salt, please?” “Certainly. Here it is.” “Thank you.” “Shall I pass you some rye bread?” “No, thank you. I usually have it with the soup, and I like white bread for the meat course.” The waitress came up to us in a few minutes and asked if we would have coffee, or tea. “Yes, please. Tea for my friend, and coffee for me,” I said. “Black or white?” “Black, and some cake, please.” “How do you like your tea?” she asked my friend. “Not very strong,” he answered, “and only two lumps of sugar, please.” We talked a little, when lunch was over, and at twenty-five to one went back to the office. 7

Приложение 3 Meals in Britain. A traditional English breakfast is a very big meal – sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms… But nowadays many people just have cereal with milk and sugar, or toast with marmalade, jam, or honey. Marmalade and jam are not the same. Marmalade is made from oranges and jam is made from other fruit. The traditional breakfast drink is tea, which people have with cold milk. Some people have coffee, which is made with just hot water. Many visitors to Britain find this coffee disgusting. For many people lunch is a quick meal. In cities there are a lot of sandwich bars, where office workers can choose the kind of bread they want – brown, white, or a roll – and then all sorts of salad and meat or fish to go in the sandwich. Pubs often serve good, cheap food, both hot and cold. School-children can have a hot meal at school, but many just take a snack from home – a sandwich, a drink, some fruit, and perhaps some crisps. ‘Tea’ means two things. It is a drink and a meal. Some people have afternoon tea, with sandwiches, cakes, and, of course, a cup of tea. Cream teas are popular. You have scones (a kind of cake) with cream and jam. The evening meal is the main meal of the day for many people. They usually have it quite early, between 6.00 and 8.00, and often the whole family eats together. On Sundays many families have a traditional lunch. They have roast meat, either beef, chicken, or pork, with potatoes, vegetables, and gravy. Gravy is a sauce made from the meat juices. The British like food from other countries, too, especially Italian, French, Chinese, and Indian. People often get take-away meals – you buy the food at the restaurant and then bring it home to eat. Eating in Britain is quite international! 9
Приложение 4 Say whether the following sentences are true or false. Correct the false sentences. a Many British people have a big breakfast. b People often have cereal or toast for breakfast. c Marmalade is different from jam. d People drink tea with hot milk. e Many foreign visitors like instant coffee. f All British people have hot lunch. g Pubs are good places to go for lunch. h British people eat dinner late in the evening. i Sunday lunch is a special meal. j When you get a take-away meal, you eat it at home. 10
