1.Организационный момент и приветствие.
Teacher: Good morning! Sit down please! I am very glad to see you and hope that
you are ready for the lesson and are in a good mood.

Teacher: Today we shall have the Home Reading lesson. It is dedicated a famous
discoverer of the New World. We shall read and discuss the text about this man at
our lesson. Besides, dear children, we are going to learn how to determine the
theme of the text, the main idea, the details and how to plan the retelling.

Teacher: Now I want you to open your activity books page 10, exercise 10. Look at
the picture and title of the text then try to predict what the text is about?
Pupils: I think this text is about Christopher Columbus who discovered America.
Teacher: Well done! I wonder what else you know about Christopher Columbus.

Каждая команда получает набор карточек для игры. На каждой карточке
написано два слова: одно слово на русском языке, другое слово на английском

Oh, I see you have understood this text perfectly. Let`s see what plan we can use
for retelling. Look at the statements from exercise 2 on the blackboard. Write down
these sentences in your exercise books. Make notes on what details you are going
to include in each paragraph. Then read your version to the class.

story of your voyage using the plan.
Work in groups. Each member of the group should retell any part of the text taking
the role of Columbus.
You have a time limit of 5 minutes…. If you are ready, let’s begin.
Pupil 1: Let me introduce myself. I am Christopher Columbus. I am a sailor. I have
made many sea voyages. I live in Spain but was born in Italy in 1451. I want to tell
you how I discovered India. It was in 1492. (He is showing Italy and Spain on the
map. )
Pupil 2: Let me continue. In those days sailors from Europe sailed east to Indies.
They brought back many wonderful things. I was sure if I sailed west but not east I
could get to Indies too.
Pupil3: Let me continue. I believed that I could prove that the Earth is round. The
queen and a king of Spain gave me ships and money and 1492 I sailed west. On
October 12 we saw an island in the ocean.
Pupil 4: I named it San Salvador and the people I met Indians. I had a hero’s
welcome when I returned to Spain.
Pupil 5: I can add I returned to India three more times. And I’ m proud that I
have found a new way to India and opened a new wonderful world.
